Don't Blink

Please don't take this post wrong, because I know that life throws us curve balls all of the time and I am not even sure that I am going to be able to get across what it is that I am trying to say here.

But…

I have been reading a lot of novels that are based in the past. Like the 10th thru the17th centuries. I think about these people and how important their rolls were to the people around them and then 2 generations later, Pfttttttttttttt no one really even remembers them unless they play a part in the history books. And even then, they are just a name, a product or a story. It makes me feel small and wonder what life really means if we only have a few short years to "feel" and then we just don't exist any more.

Like that song "Don't Blink" by Kenny Chesney. Trust me, 100 years goes faster than you think.

It is so true that the only thing guaranteed in life is death. We have approximately 100 years to live this life if we are lucky. To be something or someone to ourselves and people around us. In the history of the world, that is so miniscule! I know that this sounds morbid and possibly depressing, but take it for what it is. A wake up call to me and maybe some of you!

By the way, when I refer to "we" I mean "me".

We put way too much emphasis on shit that doesn't matter! We need to live life doing something, anything that makes us happy. We need to stop worrying about what we can't control. We need to stop worrying about the future and live our best "today". I know it is easier said than done, but really think about it. We only have a short amount of time to live this life that we were given, so we need to do what it takes to make every single day count and be happy.

In 100 years, no one is going to remember that you had 500 one night stands in your lifetime or if you tried every drug out there. Sadly, no one is even going to remember if you helped thousands of people out of poverty or built a school for the needy. No one is going to care if you were hot, ugly or creepy. We won't matter 100 years from now, so let’s not worry about it. Let’s be happy today!

Think about it. If sleeping with that guy/girl makes you happy today and it doesn't go against who you are or what you believe in and doesn't hurt anyone else, then do it! No one is going to care or remember it in 10 years and especially not in 100. And if they do, well, they will be dead too, so again who cares!

So really, we need to make today the best it can be. We need to take advantage of what makes us happy. If we live our lives blaming, complaining and angry, we are only wasting our short time here. We are just wishing our lives away!

Does this make any damn sense?

  1. It makes total sense to me, because I think about this ALOT. Maybe not in the terms of sleeping with people (ha ha) but as a way to remind myself that this is all I get, and I might as well be happy, or figure out how to be. I have recently kind of "cut off" a couple of friendships because of the ever-present drama in their lives, because I just don't have that kind of time. Same with worrying about what I look like-no time. Good post!

  2. I totally get this, and agree. The times I felt completely overwhelmed were whenever I tried to see too far ahead: that this will be my life for the rest of my life. "Everything in life is only for now."

  3. Well it kinda goes along with what m motto has always been.........

Its better to do it and regret it than to not do it and never know.

  5. Absolutely it makes sense. I just don't always look at things that way, unfortunately. Thanks for reminding me. And um... will you remind me again when I'm overthinking?

    Thanks girl. Love ya.

  6. I've started thinking about dying an awful lot lately. I don't know why. I hope it's not a premonition or anything. :o(

  7. Yes it does make sense....what is the point in spending every day wishing it were something different rather than making the most of what it is? One day...way to soon, it will be our last day and what will we have to show for it?

  8. I totally agree with you. When it's time for me to croak, I just want to know that I did everything I could to enjoy the life that was given to me, and that I was loved. I can take memories with me to Heaven.

Other than that the rest of the world isn't gonna remember or care, so I don't care.

  9. Great sentiment! The Dalai Lama says the purpose of life is to be happy, and the way to do that is by giving love from a compassionate heart. You have to be present to reach that state. And living in the present moment is all about "being".

Now then, will someone read what we just wrote, 500 years from now? :-)

  11. Your influence will go on to every generation after you. You love your child, your child loves your grandchild, your grandchild loves their child... you just taught your great, great grandchild how to love...

  12. It makes sense and we should all try to live each day to the fullest. Sometimes it's hard for me to get over the way I was raised - being a people pleaser, keeping my mouth shut, thinking that I'm not worthy of happiness. (Probably a whole notha Oprah.)

  14. Danielle, it makes a lot of sense to me. On Monday I was listening to my headset stereo while running and I heard "Don't Blink" for the first time. I thought what a marvelous song! It inspired me as I was running, and it inspired you to write this :)

  16. So I'm catching up on my reading this morning...and find myself reminded of the magic that connects us. Danielle, I have wasted YEARS attempting to mold myself into the expectations of others...suffocation sucks.

The world is a beautiful place...and today is all we have.

    Adore you!
