I am in!

I am in my new home and it’s not that bad, in fact I really like my new situation. My roommates are a ton of fun so far and can cook amazingly. It’s like a gourmet restaurant at my abode every night and I am going to have to watch myself or I will end up gaining 50 lbs.

We started moving on Friday and worked through out the weekend. Saturday turned out to be the hottest day on record this year hitting 102 degrees and of course that was the BIG moving day. Holly Hell was it hot. Thank god my girl Julia came over to help. Of course we took a break and headed to a New Mexican restaurant for a Margarita.

Mindy came over on Sunday and helped me decorate and down a couple bottles of wine. She met my roommates and enjoyed one of the fabulous meals they made. We had a blast and our girls played for hours together.

Last night was my turn to cook and of course I wanted to show them that I too can make a yummy meal. They decided that they wanted lasagna so I began to mix all the ingredients, and fry up some ground turkey. I went to turn the burner on the stove on and BOOM, a spark and a loud noise and then nothing. The oven stopped working and I am standing there with enough ingredients for two pans and no way to cook them. We ended up cooking one pan on the grill and one in the microwave. Ever had lasagna that has been cooked in the microwave? Not so great. It ended up being eatable and we had enough wine to mask it if it weren’t, so I guess it was not a total loss but geesh, could the cooking gods give me a break over here. I was trying to show that I have some skills.

Then...

Toots comes running in yelling “mommy, the toilet is peeing in you trash can”. Um, WTF??? What do you mean? “It is peeing in you trash can, come see”. Yep, the toilet was leaking and my trash was full of toilet water. I will never doubt her again.

But really, I am enjoying myself and life is good right now!

  2. Very nice. Probably the gasket around the bottom of the refill tube, where the water comes in from the wall. You can get repair kits at Home Depot (or Lowe's or whatever home improvement store you have out there) and fix it yourself in about 10 minutes.

If I was closer to you, I'd work for a small piece of microwaved lasagna. ;-)

  5. Sunday was SO fun! And yes, very hot.

And forget what I said about being envious of your new living arrangements; at least my stove, oven and toilet work properly. *knocks on wood*

Seriously, you have much to be happy about. :)

  7. YAY! So happy for your girl! It sounds like a good set up and just what you needed. So glad for you!

ANd that sucks about the oven. Nothing worse then getting excited to cook for someone and it not turn out how you wanted it to.

And I don't get how the toilet peed in your trash can? Was it fountain like??? Ca-razy!

  8. Congrats on the new place ! Sounds like you're off to a great start ! At least your roomies can cook. My roommate and I, we're pretty much fucked.

  9. Well. Better your toilet peeing in your trash can than your date.

    Just sayin'.

  14. Damn girl, you SO lucked out! Great cooks totally trump pissy toilets! I swear I could write a BOOK about the freakish roomies I've had....the closet lesbian that used to come in while I was showering, the couple from Africa that told me after 3 MONTHS that they didn't use toilet paper....yeah--and he would kick box to "Thriller" in the living room. Did I mention the one that ate pigs feet twice a week? Smooches!

  15. Yeah, I had to escape to the mountains to beat the heat. What's up with all the stuff breaking once you show up? And when is the housewarming keg party?

  16. So the toilet and the stove? :)

That's kind of poignant dude. Heh.

  19. So...are you in New Mexico now? As an Albuquerquean, (is that what we're called? It doesn't look right...) I'm intrigued by this New Mexican restaurant you visited :)

  23. I'd keep the fact that you can cook a secret for as long as possible, before you know it you'll be cooking all the time. Your first cooking experience was perfect, everybody is a little scared when you cook, including the toilet, I think your toilet is scared of the microwaved lasagna :)

  24. Sounds like a good set-up! I'm glad you're happy!

  25. I must say I love your attitude. The toilet is leaking, and you're like, "Well, microwaved lasagna isn't the worst thing I've ever had" haha! I'd be like, "Waaaaah, my toilet is leaking and I'm hungry, and I really needed to fulfill that carb craving but not with mushy noodles!"
    Good on ya!

  26. You should post more. You know you could easily hide my initials in the tat on your foot, just a thought.

  28. Just came across your blog and I have to say I thought I was reading my own story at times! I'm going through a very similar situation-my son and I just moved out of the home we all lived in for 3 years, into my parents house until...further notice lol. Your writing is so fresh and honest. Glad to hear things are looking up for you and your daughter!
